Terror suspect says law does not apply to him

One of two suspects accused of plotting to attack a Toronto to New York train asked to speak during his first court appearance yesterday. The judge agreed warning him to be careful because what he said could be used against him.

Chiheb Esseghaier suggested that the Criminal Code does not apply to him. He said only a holy book with the word of the creator does.

The judge thanked him for the comments and nonetheless scheduled his next court appearance for May 23rd, the same day his co-accused, Raed Jaser will appear.

Esseghaier was charged with five offences including conspiracy to commit murder for the benefit of a terrorist group, conspiracy to interfere with transportation facilities for the benefit of a terrorist group, and participation in a terrorist group.
