Prime Minister Stephen Harper on ‘Senategate’

Listen

On Tuesday (May 28) Canada’s Prime Minister Stephen Harper faced opposition MPs for the first time in the House of Commons since his Chief of Staff Nigel Wright resigned on May 19 after giving a Conservative government Senator a $90,000 cheque to cover a repayment of contested expenses claimed by the Senator.

Since the resignation, the Prime Minister first met with his caucus, and then left on a official mission to Peru and Columbia. Questioned about the payment in Peru, the Prime Minister said he was not aware of Wright’s payment to Senator Mike Duffy.

In Tuesday’s Question Period, question after question focussed on what some are calling ‘Senategate’.

RCI’s Wojtek Gwiazda has a report.
