The Link Online #58

Listen

This edition of THE LINK Online, features Terry Haig, Lynn Desjardins and Carmel Kilkenny who is sitting in for host Marc Montgomery.

We bring you two of the big stories in Canada this week, as well as the story of a unique commemoration ceremony in Montreal, for the August 6th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima.  The Executive Director of Montreal’s Space for Life, which includes the Botanical Garden, Charles-Mathieu Brunelle, shares his experiences of the solemn and moving ceremony in the traditional Japanese Garden.

Lynn Desjardins looked into the facts surrounding the horrific deaths of the two young boys in New Brunswick who were asphyxiated by an African Rock Python, as they slept.  People around the world were shaken by the news.  Lynn spoke with Rod Laidlaw, head of Zoocheck, a wildlife protection group based in Toronto, to find out what the laws are regarding owning and keeping exotic animals.

Terry was watching Major League Baseball.  Thirteen players, including the New York Yankees slugger, Alex Rodriquez were suspended from play for using performance enhancing drugs.  Twelve players accepted their 50-game suspension, but Alex Rodriquez was walloped with a whopping 211 game suspension.  He is appealing and will continue to play until it is resolved.  Terry speaks with sports journalist Bruce Dowbiggin about what this all means for the future of sport in light of the amazing advances in medicine.

Enjoy the program and Marc Montgomery will be back in the chair next week.
