The decision by Canada’s Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper to prorogue parliament before the House of Commons’ planned resumption on September 16 has had mixed reactions across Canada.
The prorogation of parliament has to be done by Canada’s Governor General on the advice of the Prime Minister, and would end the parliamentary session, and any bills that had not yet received Royal Assent would cease to exist.
This will be the third time since Prime Minister Harper took office in 2006 that he has sought prorogation.
