Canada’s ‘topless reporter’ makes pitch to talk show host Ellen DeGeneres

The video starts with the Canadian flag, and then “Hi Ellen, I’m Lori Welbourne, also known around the world as the ‘topless reporter’ from Canada.”

It’s a video pitch to U.S. talk show host Ellen DeGeneres from columnist, radio host and “struggling artist” Lori Welbourne from the city of Kelowna, in the Pacific coast province of British Columbia.

Welbourne made headlines around the world, and got more than three million hits on a YouTube video in which she interviewed the mayor of Kelowna, Walter Gray, about the right of a woman to be topless anywhere a man could be. As the interview unfolded, she took off her top, and continued the interview with the mayor.

The video came out just in time for International Go Topless Day and Women’s Equality Day in August.

Welbourne got a lot of support, but also some criticism for what she said was supposed to be “light and fun while also pointing out the continued sexualization of women”.

She wants to discuss the issue of gender equality with DeGeneres and says why in her new three minute video. (Her toplessness is pixelated in this version as well as the original video.)
