Canada’s retired unionists continue to fight with focus on pension protection

Listen

They may be retired, but former union members are still joining forces and fighting, and their goal is to protect pensions and health care by coordinating their actions through the Congress of Union Retirees of Canada (CURC).

Last month the Congress held a conference in Ottawa with the theme of “Building for the Future”.

Bankruptcies in private companies that affect or eliminate retirees’ pensions, a call by government ministers to reduce public sector pensions to the level of private sector pensions, are just two of the issues the Congress is trying to deal with and publicize.

RCI’s Wojtek Gwiazda spoke to Pat Kerwin, the president of the Congress of Union Retirees of Canada about the challenges facing retirees in Canada.
