Offering a “helping hand”

Offering this course fits in well with the mandate of the museum, says Fiona Valverde, the museum’s director of marketing, communications and development. “A big part of welcoming newcomers is lending a supporting hand in helping them along their journey when they leave their country and come to Canada to settle…There are many obstacles. We’re very familiar with that because our mandate is to enhance Canadians’ understanding of the immigration journey and also lend a support and helping hand to newcomers and making them feel welcome.”

Positive feedback

The museum saw a gap in services offered to newcomers and decided to fill it by offering the course. It offered the same couse last year and received very positive feedback. It then responded to the community’s expectation that it be offered again.

The course will be offered on Saturday mornings in French and Saturday afternoons in English between January and March.
