SNC Lavalin former executives facing criminal charges

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police filed criminal charges against two former senior SNC-Lavalin executives on Friday.

RCMP Cpl. Lucy Shorey said, former executive vice-president Sami Abdallah Bebawi has been charged with fraud over $5,000; two counts of laundering proceeds of crime; four counts of possession of property obtained by crime; and with bribing a foreign public official.

Cpl. Shorey said the alleged offences occurred between 2001 and 2013.  A warrant has been issued for Bebawi’s arrest as his whereabouts are unknown.

Stephane Roy, a former vice-president at SNC-Lavalin, was charged with fraud over $5,000; bribing a foreign public official; and contravening a United Nations economic measures act related to Libya.   These offences are alleged to have occurred between 2008 and 2012.

Roy is to appear in court on March 5th, 2014.
