Roaring good time in Toronto this weekend

Vast crowds of racing fans from across North America are already gathering in Canada’s biggest city, Toronto, for  one of the most exciting car races on the continent.  It’s the Toronto Indy-car race

What makes this top level open-wheel race exciting is that unlike F1, the cars are all essentially the same putting the emphasis more on the driver.

The engines are only either Honda or Chev, the chassis and aerodynamic kit is all the same, and they all drive on Firestone tires.

Some 24 cars will try to negotiate city streets around the Canadian National Exhibition grounds on what is a very challenging course.

It’s tight, it’s hot, it’s bumpy, with challenging curves, and speed does not necessarily mean a win nor does the pole position as there is habitually plenty of attritution along the 2.8 km track during the 85 laps of each race.

The Toronto Indy also provides double the excitement as its one of only two venues on the schedule where there are two complete points races, one Saturday and one Sunday.

With practices, two qualifying sessions, and two full races on the street course, not to mention the entertainment and local foods and craft beers, the Toronto Indy is one of the best race venues on the continent.

In fact, it’s no longer called just a race, with all the attractions its being unofficially labelled as the Toronto Indy Festival
