Tesla opens charging station on Sea to Sky highway

Tesla Motors opened its first Canadian Supercharger station yesterday in Squamish, British Columbia.

The community is at the end of the route from the city of Vancouver to Whistler, known as the Sea to Sky Highway, one of the most beautiful drives in the world.

The charging station is the first of several opening soon, according to the California-based maker of the Model-S electric car.

Surperchargers are designed to enable highway travel between cities.  It takes about 20 to 30 minutes for a half-recharge of the Model S, which has an EPA-certified range of 425 kilometres.

The closest station was in Seattle, Washington, which allowed super-charged travel up to Vancouver, but not beyond, until now.

Tesla Motors said, in a statement, that the Squamish station is “an integral component of Tesla’s West Coast route, allowing Model S owners to travel between San Diego, California and Whistler, British Columbia.
