Indigenous people and mainstream Canadians launch new organization

Faced by the continuing lack of understanding of Indigenous issues in Canada, two former prime ministers, one a Liberal, another a Conservative, and four Indigenous leaders met with journalists in Ottawa on Thursday (September 4) to launch a new organization ‘Canadians for a New Partnership’.

The organization wants to present a realistic and informed image of the Indigenous reality in Canada with the hope of forcing Canadian governments in the future to deal justly with such issues as treaty rights, living conditions, and Indigenous control over their own affairs.

RCI’s Wojtek Gwiazda has a report.
