Canada's National Revenue Minister Kerry-Lynne Findlay dismissed charges by the opposition that warnings by the government tax collection agency Revenue Canada to a birders' group of a possible audit were politically motivated.

Focus on offshore tax havens, not charitable groups, says opposition to government

Back from the Thanksgiving Day week holiday, Canada’s Official Opposition questioned the government on a number of issues including its response to the Ebola crisis, marine safety, and Revenue Canada’s warning to a birders’ association they could be audited because of “political activities”.

Last week it was reported that the group, the Kitchener-Waterloo Field Naturalists in the province of Ontario, was warned by the government tax collecting agency that it must refrain “from undertaking any partisan activities,” and warns “this letter does not preclude any future audits.”

Official Opposition MP Murray Rankin suggested the government should concentrate on tax cheaters in offshore tax havens rather than charitable organizations.
