Canada’s PM Harper promises $5.8B of infrastructure spending over three years

Canada’s Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced Monday (November 24) $5.8 billion of infrastructure funding over the next three years, saying an expected budget surplus next year would allow for the extra funding. Next year, there is a scheduled federal election in October.

The new infrastructure funding includes heritage, tourism, waterway and highways in national parks and historic sites. It also includes repair of Canadian Armed Forces facilities and border controls.

The Prime Minister also announced the Canadian government’s research unit, the National Research Council of Canada, would help manufacturers with what he called the “Factory of the Future”.
