Acid attacker sentenced to 57 months

A young Canadian who threw acid on his girlfriend has been sentenced to 57 months in prison minus the time he has already served. That leaves another 16 months he will be incarcerated.

Nikolas Stefanatos, 29, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault in November. During an argument in 2012 he threw cement cleaner on his girlfriend, Tanya St-Arnauld. She suffered severe burns over her face and upper body and spent several days in an induced coma.

Victim wants to move on

After appearing on a U.S. talk show St-Arnauld was offered laser treatments in Miami that helped soften her scars and increase her mobility.

After hearing of the court’s decision, she said 16 months isn’t long but she accepts the sentence and is looking forward to moving on.
