A couple walks in the rain on Christmas Eve in Ottawa. A lot of Canadians across the country will be joining them in the hoisting of umbrellas. We see a man and a woman dressed in winter jackets walking along the path between a row of high trees. The girl (on the left) is under an umbrella. There's just a touch of slushy snow under the trees. Their path appears very wet, gleaming with moisture.

A different kind of Canadian Christmas, colour it green

Bing (not the search engine, kids) sang about it as White, Elvis saw it Blue.

Canadians are seeing Christmas this year as a combo of green and brown.

Hold those walks under the glistening tree tops with snow falling gently and the kids trailing along on their brand new sleds. Not gonna happen.

Environment Canada reports that green is the word today for about 85 per cent of Canadians.

Dave Phillips, the department’s senior climatologist, says about the only place where there’s snow on the ground today is parts of the prairies.

Christmas Day forecasts call for a high of plus four across southern and eastern Ontario as well as southern Quebec.

Highs of 11 to 14 are predicted for the Maritimes, where a rainfall warning is in effect.

Forecasters expect temperatures to drop back down to seasonal by the weekend and to stay that way for the rest of winter.

Ah, that tropical air.
