Whati, North West Territories will be the home-base for a Japanese film crew for the next two weeks as they put together a documentary about the winter ice road.
The six-member crew intends to film the opening of the ice road, and follow how it effects the small northern community that depends on it.
Five crew members will make the trip by plane, and one will drive the ice road carrying equipment and food.
The team from Tokyo, is working for NHK, the national broadcaster. According to producer Kaz Yagi, audiences in Japan are fascinated by Canada’s Northern communities and the challenge of access during the winter.
