Toronto students chat with Edward Snowden

Fugitive whistleblower Edward Snowden will chat with about a thousand Toronto high school students via video conference on the evening of Monday, February 2.

The event was organized by students from two private schools for the annual World Affairs Conference.

Snowden, a former National Security Agency contractor fled the United States after leaking thousands of classified documents. He will speak from Russia where he was granted asylum. Speaking from Brazil will be Glenn Greenwald, the journalist who worked with him to expose extensive surveillance by government spy agencies.

“Privacy vs. Security: A discussion of Personal Privacy in the Digital Age” is the title of the discussion. One of the schools, Upper Canada College, will stream the discussion live starting at 7pm EST.

Snowden also obtained and made public a document detailing massive collection of videos and documents by Canada’s electronic spy agency.
