One more province bans tanning beds for under 18s

The western province of Alberta wants to reduce the risk of skin cancer by banning anyone under 18 years old from using indoor tanning beds. Canadians tend to think a tan looks good so some people pay to use these machines which emit ultraviolet rays to bronze the skin.

The problem is that UV rays also increase the risk of developing skin cancer later in life. Melanoma is one of the fastest-growing preventable cancers, according to the Canadian Cancer Society.

If Alberta passes the proposed ban, the province of Saskatchewan will be the only province that does not regulate youth access to tanning beds.
