Eugenie Bouchard wins

Eugenie Bouchard, the Canadian tennis star broke a losing streak today, defeating American Alison Riske in her opening match at the AEGON International tournament in Eastbourne, England.

Bouchard, the 21-year-old from Montreal, Quebec, has been struggling this year, losing 10 of her last 11 matches.

Seeded seventh at the grass-court Wimbledon tune-up event, she won 7-6 (5), 6-3 over her unseeded opponent today.

“It is good to finally get one [a win on grass],” Bouchard told reporters.. “I was a little bit more aggressive and I was trying to enjoy the moment.”

These challenges follow the meteoric rise last year that took her into the Wimbledon final.

Ranked as high as fifth in the world last season, Bouchard is currently ranked 12th.
