Montreal International Jazz Festival ends on a low note

Montreal’s International Jazz Festival ended last night with a rousing concert by British-Lebanese singer Mika, but organizers say, overall, the festival lost money this year.

The 36th edition, while well-attended with higher ticket sales, was a little lower key than festivals in past years. Three days and nights of rain did not help the turn-out at the largest Jazz festival in the world, according to the Guinness people.

While the line-up seemed to be missing some of the big names of past editions, the artists that did perform were treated to one of the warmest and most enthusiastic audiences in North America.

Organizers say some of the decrease in revenue was due to nearby restaurants luring people off the site to wine and dine.
