Poetic justice? Texter crashes into cop, gets ticket

It’s not the first case of irony involving texting while driving, but it does make one wonder about people’s judgement.

A woman who had been texting a friend rear-ended a police car, and then continued to text and sent the following message   which was recovered by police from the woman’s mobile phone.

“I just got into an accident, OMG. I was trying to txt u. Ran into a cop car. OMGGG.”

(OMG= oh my god)

The accident occurred in Victoria, the capital of British Columbia located on Vancouver Island in Canada’s west coast province of British Columbia.

The accident occurred on Wednesday evening around 7pm  involving the female driver with a child with her in the car, and a police K-9 cruiser at a busy intersection.

The police officer and dog were uninjured, and the woman and child received non-life threatening injuries but were taken to hospital as a precaution.

Both cars received some damage, and the driver was issued a $167 ticket for using an electronic device while driving.

Victoria police constable Matt Rutherford said, “The continued message is for people to leave their phones alone, and if you feel that you must text, pull over”.

Victoria police had originally tweeted the story with an image of the mobile phone message, but removed it after negative comments began to be made.

In December another “ironic” accident occurred when a texter in Quebec City, drove into the back of bus which carried a safety promo about the dangers of texting and driving.
