The Candy’s!” The name really caught on last night at the Canadian Screen Awards Gala. Conferred by comedian and host of the televised event, Norm Macdonald, the name is an affectionate reference to the late, great, John Candy.
Jacob Tremblay, the nine-year-old who won Best Actor in a Leading Role for the movie ‘Room‘ was the first to take to the “Candy” when he presented the award for Best Actor in a Continuing Leading Dramatic Role, which went to Ari Black from the television series, ‘Orphan Black’.
‘Room’ was honoured with nine awards including the CSA for best adapted screenplay to Emma Donoghue who worked from her own novel.
And the CBC’s hit comedy, ‘Schitt’s Creek‘ was rewarded with several trophies including best comedy series, best actor in a continuing leading comedic role for Eugene Levy, and best actress in a continuing leading comedic role for Catherine O’Hara, to the delight of many fans who go way back to their work on the ground-breaking SCTV.
