Stephen Harper resigns his seat

Stephen Harper, the former Prime Minister of Canada, resigned his seat in Parliament today. In a recorded message on his facebook page, Stephen Harper thanked his MP’s, and listed the Conservative government’s accomplishments, after almost 10 years in power.

The Member of Parliament for the riding of Calgary Heritage, in the city of Calgary, Alberta, Harper won the seat by a hefty 22.000 votes. in the election last October. But Harper’s party lost and he resigned as leader. Since then he kept a very low profile in Parliament.

In late December 2015, Stephen Harper established “Harper & Associates Consulting Inc.” Harper is listed as a director, along with former PMO staffers Ray Novak and Jeremy Hunt. The company will be based in Calgary.

The Conservative Party will chose a new leader on May 27th, 2017 and there are currently four registered candidates.

Against a stunning background on the Saguenay River in Quebec, where the Liberal caucus met today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau bid Stephen Harper the best, and thanked him for the orderly and respectful transition of power, following the election.
