Conversations with Anita Khanna and Nick Chowlia
MASALA CANADA with WOJTEK GWIAZDA
On this edition of MASALA CANADA I talk to Anita Khanna, she’s the project manager of a new web and arts initiative called the Brown Canada Project. It’s a fascinating initiative from Toronto’s Council of Agencies Serving South Asians (CASSA). The project offers a website, scholarly research, poetry readings, a play and other activities. The goal is to share the diverse histories of the many different South Asian communities in Canada’s most populous city of Toronto, as well as the province of Ontario – which is Canada’s most populous province, and home to most of the South Asian community in Canada.
And I talk to Vancouver musician, producer and radio host Nick Chowlia who is the keyboardist in the Vancouver Bhangra band En Karma. On May 31st they released the first single and video “Tu Nach” from their upcoming album. We talk about the new song, the challenges and differences between live concerts and studio recording, and about the fact that En Karma is one of the few live Bhangra bands that tours as a band.
