MASALA CANADA with WOJTEK GWIAZDA

On this edition of MASALA CANADA I talk to Sarah Mohan, a research intern with Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC), about small tea farms in Nepal and the advantages and disadvantages of going green and harvesting tea for the west. And why even though initially profits are lower for these farmers, they’re still willing to change to organic.

Saman Malik, Co-Chair of Hearts for Pakistan, tells us how they’re raising funds for flood aid in Pakistan with an auction of art objects October 18th at the Gladstone Hotel in Toronto.

And Montreal investigative journalist and author Sheila McLeod Arnopoulos will talk about her new book “Saris on Scooters – How Microcredit is Changing Village India”. She talks about the time she spent in villages with grassroots organizations, and Dalit women who are using small loans and their determination to win greater financial independence and gain respect for their rights.
