Conversations with Mark Fried, Amit Arya, Derwyn Crozier-Smith

MASALA CANADA with WOJTEK GWIAZDA

MASALA CANADA - Oxfam study: “Whose Aid is it Anyway?” Photo: Oxfam

On this edition of MASALA CANADA I talk to Mark Fried, Policy Coordinator at the international aid organisation Oxfam Canada about a new study from Oxfam. This past Thursday, Oxfam International released  “Whose Aid is it Anyway?” which shows an increasing trend by international aid donor countries to orient their aid to serve foreign policy and military objectives. We’ll talk about what’s happening, and the negative impact its having.

Toronto singer, Amit Arya, shares with us his passion for Indian classical music, the founding of the Pandit Jasraj Institute of Music in Toronto, the release of his CD, and the fact that he’s also a practicing medical doctor, specializing in family medicine.

And retired Canadian school teacher and principal, Derwyn Crozier-Smith who for the last 20 years has been involved in a 50 year Canadian tradition of teachers sharing their knowledge with teachers around the world. He shares his disappointment over the cancellation of the program because of a funding cut by a federal government agency. And he’ll talk about the impact of this cut on colleagues in India.
