Government promises to make polluters pay

An oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico in April 2010 cost billions to clean up. Canada currently limits corporate liability for offshore oil spills to about $40 million, but the Canadian government may increase that cap.

Polluters should pay and the Canadian government may act to make that happen. Currently Canada limits liability for offshore oil spills to about $40 million. The environment minister said he is about to make significant changes to liability rules governing resource companies. The devil will be in the details to be revealed in a few months.
