How can Sri Lankans of different ethnic backgrounds, living thousands of kilometres away from their native land, promote true peace there after more than a quarter century of civil war? For a start, they can have “that difficult conversation.” Two young Sri Lankan-Canadian women, Jothi Shanmugam, of Tamil origin, and Natale Dankotuwage, of Sinhalese background, have done just that. They are now engaged in a quest to get others on board.

Guidestones is a web-based, serialized, interactive murder mystery, based on real-life events. It was created and produced by Jay Ferguson and stars Supinder Wraich and Dan Fox. Wojtek spoke with Supinder earlier this year, prior to the series’ launch. Now, we rejoin Supinder and Jay to see how things are progressing.

If the grandparents are isolated and lonely and their children or grandchildren are getting into trouble with alcohol or drugs, why not kill two birds with one stone? In the city of Richmond, British Columbia – the city with the highest concentration of immigrants in Canada – South Asian grandparents are being coaxed out of their isolation to be trained as community ambassadors to help deal with worrisome issues affecting their families and the community at large. Rick Dubras, Executive Director of Richmond Addictions, speaks with Victor Nerenberg about Chai at Chaupal.
