Marc Montgomery talks to Kim Thuy about her award-winning first book called "Ru". In the semi-autobiographical Ru, we follow the author from a privileged family in Hanoi, to the terrors of fleeing the Viet Cong and bandits, to squalid refugee camps; to a new and very strange life in Canada, and a much later return visit to a very changed Vietnam. Beautifully translated from the French by Sheila Fischman, Ru is written in the most wonderful and poetic prose.
