Western governments make excuses for African nations’ lack of democracy, political scientist says

Awa Dlodlo spoke with a Canadian political science professor who has published a paper revealing how officials of Western governments are not doing enough to encourage countries in sub-Saharan Africa to achieve political democracy. In his article, ‘Well, what can you expect?’: Donor officials’ apologetics for hybrid regimes in Africa, The University of Ottawa’s Stephen Brown says Western donor organisations are apologists for undemocratic systems.
