Almost a million Canadians a month turn to food banks to be able to eat

Picture
With the holiday season approaching, Canada's food banks are calling on Canadians to put the food banks on their holiday gift list.

Food Banks Canada, a national organisation which represents the food bank community, made the appeal this week. It noted that 900,000 Canadians had turned to food banks each month this year.

It added that since 2008 the number of people using food banks has risen 31 per cent.

RCI's Wojtek Gwiazda spoke to Katharine Schmidt, the Executive Director of Food Banks Canada.
