*TORONTO: VISIBLE MINORITIES IN FAST EXPANSION=

There's a prediction that one-third of Canada's population will comprise members of the country's visible minorities. The term is used to describe people other than natives who are non-Caucasian in race or non-white in skin colour. According to Statistics Canada, 14.4 million people will be in this category within three decades. That's almost three times the number of such residents were counted in the 2006 census. StatsCan also predicts that the largest minority group will be South Asian, which includes newcomers from such countries as India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The population of Chinese origin will double. The agency says more than 70 of visible minority members will live in Toronto, Vancouver or Montreal.
