KAMLOOPS: ANOTHER POLE RUNS INTO TROUBLE AT VANCOUVER AIRPORT

A would-be Polish visit to Vancouver says he was detained at the international airport and sent home to London for a second time last Sunday. Twenty-eight-year-old Pawel Marach says says he was detained at the airport on suspicion of intending to work in Canada illegally, which he denied, explaining in vain that he wanted to visit an aunt and uncle who live in Kamloops. A customs officer refused to allow him to contact his relatives and he was not allowed out of the airport before being put on a plane back to London. Mr. Marach had been denied entry into Canada last month when an official thought he was looking for work. He returned with a passport, proof of employment and a return plane ticket but was again refused entry after an official accused him of lying. Mr. Marach says he remain calm during the ordeal, being reminded of the fate of fellow Pole Robert Dziekanski. Mr. Dziekanski died at Vancouver International Airport in October 2007 after being Tasered several times by federal police officers.
