A court in Ottawa is hearing the case of a former judge with the Immigration and Refugee Board who is accused of breach of trust and bribery in the case of a would-be South Korean refugee. Steve Ellis is accused of have sought sex from Ji-Hye Kim in return for a reveral of his previous denial of her refugee claim. Prosecutors claim Mr. Ellis told the applicant in September 2006 that he would deny her request unless she agreed to an intimate relationship with him. She and her boyfriend recorded the conversation during which the alleged proposal was made and the audio and video recordings were to be introduced as evidence later Tuesday. Mr. Ellis has pleaded not guilty.
