PROGRAM CREATES DIALOGUE WITH IMMIGRANTS

A private program is encouraging immigrants to the province of Manitoba to speak of their experiences to native-born Canadians. The program is the initiative of the Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization of Manitoba (IRCOM). The IRCOM believes that Canada's multicultural society has a place for people of all backgrounds and skills to share their experiences with the broader community. The IRCOM gives immigrants a forum to educate the general public on the varied backgrounds of newcomers to Canada. IRCOM is a non-profit organization. It operates a five-storey housing complex in downtown Winnipeg called IRCOM House. The complex offers secure, affordable and clean two and three bedroom apartments to newcomers for up to three years after their arrival. To learn more about IRCOM, see the Web site, www.ircom.ca
