MAPLE LEAF MAILBAG - February 5, 2012

Listener and President of the Radio Zeater Club, Wareibi Blip PorbeniOn this week's show, what is the future of shortwave radio? With World Radio Day coming up on February 13th I'd like to hear your thoughts about that. Canada is marking Black History Month and I would like to hear what our friends in the global black community think about Canada, so send me your emails, letters and postcards. (Wareibi Blip Porbeni president of the Radio Zeater Club did!) I still have a small number of 2012 RCI calendars left so if you want one send me your address ASAP!  DKM is back, sort of, listener Pete Bentley wades in on Quirks and Quarks and don't forget about the latest edition of @World.ca featuring Canadian artdealer/philanthropist Fredrick Mulder. Musical guests this week, Avril Lavigne, and Theory of a Deadman for Carmen!

Hello Ian, My thoughts on shortwave radio are that it has a very limited future, mainly due to the rising costs of operating transmitters. This is very unfortunate for many long-time shortwave listeners. Many aspects available from traditional SWL disappear, such as the excitement of DXing and QSL card collecting as the stations go to internet only format.I really am disappointed to see shortwave broadcasts disappear.Stations should maintain at least some presence on the air for people who cannot access a computer or the internet.
