Northern Finland basks in autumn warmth

Photo: Ville Kinnunen, YLE.October was warmer than usual in Finland this year, with the average temperature at five degrees Celsius. As a rule, temperature during the second month of autumn is 2.8 degrees lower than that.

The Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) says that the biggest long-term deviation from the norm was in northern Finland, particularly eastern and northern Lapland, where this October was three degrees warmer than usual.

October’s temperatures in northern Finland can be described as rare, but not exceptional.

This was already the eighth month in a row when the country’s average temperature was above the long-term average.

The year 1961 marked the warmest October in the last 50 years.
