Electricity price hike in Sweden due to cold weather

On Wednesday morning a couple of oil-fuelled reserve power stations were started up just to meet demand as one reactor at the nuclear power station Forsmark, a town in eastern Sweden, had to be turned off for examination.

The situation has caused the electricity price to soar by 40% in just a few days.

A total of four out of the country’s 10 nuclear power reactors are currently not working. Another reactor is only working at reduced capacity.
