Levi, in Finland's Arctic Lapland region, is a popular destination for holidaymakers. Image: Yle / Jarmo Honkanen Cabin bookings for the ski holiday break are up since last year.

The three weeks from February 18 to March 10 are already 5 percent more booked than they were in 2012, according to Finland’s largest ski centre accommodation company, Lomarengas.

According to the booking service, one third of cabins are still available, but reservations are continuing to roll in.

The average rental price for a cabin is around 800 euros, while cabins outside ski centres cost around 600-650 euros.

Russian holidaymakers account for a fifth of bookings, according to the company, and Ylläs, Levi, Ruka and Koli are especially popular with eastern visitors.

Those who are strapped for time are advised that it isn’t necessary to book a cottage for the whole week, as overnight reservations are also possible.

Lomarengas lists over 3,700 cottages for rent in Finland.
