The plans to start new nuclear programmes in Sweden seem to have come to a halt as the roughly 50 Swedes who have worked for years to prepare for new nuclear power programmes have gotten other assignments, Swedish Radio News reports.

The state-owned power company Vattenfall has ceased all of its preparations to build a new nuclear power plant in Sweden after the new government decided so four months ago.

The previous centre-right coalition government was in favour of a new nuclear programme, but after two-and-a-half years of preparations the state-owned company Vattenfall and the Swedish Radiation Authority’s work has come to a halt and the employees in charge all have other job assignments today, according to Swedish Radio News.

The new government has, however, promised to set up an over-the-party-lines energy commission in order to come up with an energy agreement that has wide support in parliament.
