Storms at sea

Newfoundland has more frequent storms than anywhere else in North America. Surrounded by the cold waters of the North Atlantic, the island is close to the corridors taken by storms coming from the south and the west. According to the season, winds, dense fog, snow, freezing rain, huge waves and icebergs can make for very dangerous coastal waters. The coasts of Newfoundland are dotted with shipwrecks.
