Saskatoon nightclubs ban gang ID

Some nightclubs in Saskatoon Saskatchewan have had enough.

Beily’s Ultralounge and the Outlaws Country Rock Bar, say the Hells Angels and other gangs are banned from wearing their jackets or any other type of clothing that identifies or associates them with a gang.

This comes following recent incidents which threatened owners, staff and other customers.

Anyone attempting to enter with gang insignia will be kept out by bouncers, but if problems occur, police will be called.

One club source said, “If there’s one fight, the place clears out and look how much money is lost”

The sign outside Outlaws specifies the dress code as:  No sideways hats,  No sweats/track suits, No jerseys except game days only, No steel-toe boots, No support shirts, No gang wear, No “doo” rags, No tank tops (men)

The Saskatchewan provincial government attempted a similar  ban years ago  with legislation  that prohibited wearing “any sign, symbol, logo or other representation identifying, associated with or promoting a gang or a criminal organization.”

The law was successfully appealed by Hells Angels members. They said it violated their constitutional rights.

While the original law is still on the books, it is not being enforced according to a Saskatchewan justice official who said the law is currently under review.
