Canadian province of Ontario – Premier Wynne and ministers sworn into office

Listen

The new cabinet of Canada’s most populous province of Ontario was sworn into office in the Ontario legislature in Toronto on Tuesday (June 24).

Liberal Premier Kathleen Wynne had gambled in May that she could defeat the Official Opposition Progressive Conservatives of Tim Hudak, when the third place social democratic NDP refused to support her provincial budget.

At first observers thought the Liberal and NDP votes would pave the way for a Conservative victory. But the Liberals won an outright majority on June 12..

At the swearing in ceremony Premier Wynne thanked Ontarians for their confidence, and the ceremony also included a special welcoming ceremony by an Indigenous elder who reminded both Wynne and Ontario Lieutenant Governor David Onley of the promises made to the province’s Indigenous people in the past.
