Sugar Sammy has been reflecting his hometown of multi-cultural Montreal back at audiences, cracking people up with his hilarious collection of characters and the various accents in which they communicate.
But the comedian the Hollywood Reporter annointed as one of their “Ten Comics to Watch”, is wrapping up his series of one-man shows in French and English this spring, to head to Paris in the fall of 2016.

In an interview with Mike Finnerty on CBC Radio, the comedian formerly known as Samir Khullar, explained the move: “A lot of producers there were very interested so I went to test the market and it worked really well. So I said ‘let’s move forward and push to another market and try to conquer France,”
Sugar Sammy is no stranger to international success. He’s appeared on stages around the world with an ability to make people laugh in English, French, Punjabi and Hindi.
In early 2013, Comedy Central India invited him to tour the country with dates in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore. Among his many TV credits is a one-hour TV special on Showtime Arabia; “Sugar Sammy Live in Dubai” aired in 14 countries.
Handsome and funny he came by the nickname during his university days at McGill. In Cultural Studies by day it was his work as a night clup promoter by night that earned him the moniker. He often let the ladies in free.
During the November 18th, interview on Montreal’s CBC Radio, Sugar Sammy got serious about comedy for a moment explaining what he admired about the scene in Paris; “They got up and performed again at the beginning of this week. They sent a newsletter saying the best way to resist is to keep doing it. We are there to make you laugh and forget and bring up the topic, deal with the elephant in the room with finesse. I think it was brave.”
