Feature Interview: Movie takes on hydro development in Canadian North

Still from documentary 'People of a Feather'. Source: www.peopleofafeather.comFor untold generations, the lives of Canada’s Inuit people of Hudson Bay’s Belcher Islands have revolved around the Common Eider (Somateria mollissima sedentaria), a diving duck that actually overwinters there.

But in recent years, mass die-offs of the birds have been traced back to changes in water currents brought about by hydroelectric projects.

People of a Feather is a critically-aclaimed documentary that explores this issue in depth.

Marc Montgomery, host of Radio Canada International’s The Link, speaks with biologist Joel Heath, the film’s director.
