First snow falls in Lapland, Finland

Image: Tanja Männistö / Yle  Southern Lapland received its first snowfall of the season on Tuesday as several centimetres of the white stuff blanketed Rovaniemi.

The snowfall began in the city of Rovaniemi after 2pm on Tuesday, and within a few hours the city was covered.

Snowfalls will continue in Lapland, Finland’s northernmost region, until Wednesday morning, according to the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI).

The FMI warns of poor road conditions in Lapland due to snow and sleet.
