Sweden joins agreement on cutting Baltic cod quotas

From video of the Agriculture and Fisheries Council meeting in Luxembourg press conference. Radio Sweden.Meeting in Luxembourg Monday, Sweden joined several other key EU states in an agreement to cut cod fishing quotas in the Baltic Sea.

According to the European Commission, fishery ministers from Sweden, Poland, Germany, Denmark, Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania agreed to cut quotas by 9 percent to 61,565 tons in the eastern part of the Baltic, Quotas in the western part wold be reduced by 6 percent to just over 20,000 tons.

The commission says the reduced quotas would allow cod stocks to recover faster than expected to levels where they can support sustainable catches.
