Election for Ndilǫ chief in Canada’s N.W.T. happening Monday

Members can cast ballots at 1 of 3 voting stations from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Members of the Yellowknives Dene First Nation will vote for the next chief of Ndilǫ on Monday.

Elizabeth J. Liske, Shirley Tsetta, Ted Tsetta and incumbent Fred Sangris are all vying to be the community’s next leader.

Members can cast their ballots from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at one of three voting stations: the Chief Drygreese Conference Centre, the Ndilǫ Gym and the Tree of Peace. Ballots will be counted at the Ndilǫ Gym. 

Only members of the Yellowknives Dene First Nation can vote in the election, and individuals will need to bring a piece of ID to verify their identity.

Lynda Comerford, the election’s returning officer, said people can use a driver’s licence or treaty card.
