2 dead, 5 others injured after fire breaks out at mining camp near Dawson City, Yukon

The Yukon coroner’s office says it’s investigating the cause of the fire, rules out suspicious activity

The Yukon Coroner’s office says it is investigating the cause of a fire that left two people dead and five others injured at a remote gold mining camp on Friday morning.

The fire started at the Brewer Creek gold mine located 100 kilometres south of Dawson City, Yukon, according to the coroner’s office.

The camp is only accessible by helicopter or boat.

Two seasonal workers from British Columbia, both 20 years old, were fatally injured.

Five others were medevaced to the Dawson City Community Hospital for medical treatment.

The Coroner’s Service is conducting an investigation with assistance from the Whitehorse Fire Marshall’s Office, the Workers Safety and Compensation Board and the Dawson City RCMP detachment.

The coroners office says the investigation is in its early stages, and the cause of the fire has not yet been determined

Suspicious causes have been ruled out

The Yukon Coroner’s Service expressed its condolences to the families, friends and coworkers of the two deceased individuals and extended appreciation to everyone assisting with the investigation.
