The Finnish Security Intelligence Service’s (Supo) communications unit told Yle that it is not aware of any particular threat.

According to Swedish TV4 News, an individual thought to be linked to a foreign power has made a serious threat directed at the energy network of the Nordic countries.

Citing its sources, the commercial broadcaster said the threat is severe in nature and should be taken very seriously.

TV4 reported that a number of Swedish authorities have been involved in a joint international effort and are actively working on the case.

As a Nordic country, the threat would also include Finland.

Santeri Iltanen from the Finnish Security Intelligence Service’s (Supo) communications unit told Yle that the agency is not aware of any particular threat.

The Swedish broadcaster’s story about the threat was posted around midday on Thursday.

Other Finnish authorities Yle contacted on Thursday have yet to comment about the matter.

Apart from Supo, Yle has contacted Finland’s grid operator Fingrid, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), as well as the defence and interior ministries.
